So what is Internet security? Internet security is just that, protection from people online that would do you harm. There are millions of people online everyday. And where there is people, you can be sure there are criminals.
Criminals online come in three different categories. Hackers which aim to invade your privacy, Crackers which go one step further and steal or damage your information, and malicious software which comes in the shape of viruses, spyware, and adware. Each require you to be on your guard when online. Each require a certain level of protection, a certain level of internet security.
Ok, that is great and all, but how do you protect yourself? What do you need to provide a high level of security. A high level of protection from crackers, hackers, and malicious code. Here are three great ways to up your level of defense online.
The first thing you need is a firewall. A firewall is your first line of defense online. It protects your personal information on your computer. It is even more important to have a firewall if you have a home wireless network.
Viruses are everywhere. New ones are born everyday. Antivirus software will protect you both on and offline. It will scan, detect, and destroy viruses on your computer. It is like having your own body guard look out for you while you surf the web.
And as if that wasn’t enough, we need to cover spyware. Spyware is used to get information about you. Your passwords, your browsing behavior, your private information. To tackle this annoying problem, install the latest antispyware on your PC. A good antispyware software suite will protect from things like Trojans, adware, and keyloggers.
