Knowing that we spend a third of our lives in bed should help you in your decision making when it comes to good bedding. So needless to say that it is absolutely imperative that you purchase good quality sheets and a supportive mattress to sleep on.

The first thing to consider when purchasing bed sheets is the thread count of those sheets. The higher the thread count, means more threads per square inch. And the more threads per square inch makes that fabric strong, more durable and longer lasting.

Not to mention how much more softer and silkier the feel of the fabric. We are describing here the King of cotton, the Egyptian cotton bed sheets. You can find this luxurious fabric, which is less prone to shrinkage too, with thread counts of 300, 500 up to 600!

Its long fiber creates a silky, soft feel and is more durable and less prone to shrinkage, compared to its counterparts. You can find thread counts 300 up to 600 in luxury Egyptian bed sheets.

Next choice is Pima or Supima which is compared to the luxury of Egyptian sheets. The difference is geographical; Egyptian is just that and the cotton is grown along the Nile River in Egypt. Pima is American and is grown in the Southwest.

Your lower quality but more affordable is percale sheets. The thread count is not as high, typically around 180 to 200 and can be found as 100% cotton or a mix blend of 50/50 cotton and polyester blend. Your 200 thread count of course will give you a softer feel.

Mattress pads and covers will protect your mattress from sweat and stains and provide extra padding and comfort. An extra thick pad or cover is certainly cheaper than buying a pillow-top mattress.

Blankets and comforters will round out your warmth and comfort and add to your overnight sleep experience, so make sure to get what’s right for you.

Don’t forget to choose a warm blanket or comforter to top the bedding for a warm and restful night. Choose your comforter like you would choose your thread count. This way you’ll get more years of comfort and enjoyment. You know what they say; you get what you pay for.
