Building wooden sheds makes for a great project, and you don’t have to be a seasoned professional to build one for yourself. Wooden sheds are really versatile and they’ve been around for years. If you are the type of person that likes to do things yourself, then constructing a wooden shed (although challenging enough to keep your interest) is relatively easy.

There are a few important things to consider before you purchase a set of plans.

First, you will need to determine how you will be using your wooden shed. As an example, you might just need it to hold your snowmobile or riding mower. Or, perhaps you have a pool and want a place to store your pool supplies.

Choosing the right shed plans is first determined by how you will be using your wooden shed. Now that you know this, you SHOULD know how much room you’ll need to fill the space. Remember, look for plans that have the appropriate size to fit your required needs.

Since you will most likely be searching online for your shed plans, the first thing you will notice is a either a photo of the actual shed or a three-dimensional drawing of it. Personal taste as to the style of the shed is another big factor in picking out your plans. If you know where you will be placing your shed (which you should), be aware of where the windows are placed and where the door will be located.

Finally, look over the description of what’s included in the shed plans. The best plans will always have plenty of reference photos or drawings of the shed as its being built. Plus, its very helpful to have plans that include exploded diagrams. This makes constructing wooden sheds much easier. And, let’s not forget that there should always be a complete materials list.

For over 20 years now, Dan Reiling has been fascinated with wooden sheds. He created a web site specifically about sheds, called: Best Wooden Sheds. Its full of more info, tips and resources so be sure to check it out.
