The process of gardening with hydroponics has become very common these days. There is no need of soil to grow plants by using hydroponic gardening. This procedure of hydroponics has been there since thousands of years and the two most prominent examples of hydroponic gardening are The Floating Gardens of China and The hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Hydroponics is a Greek work that means the combination water and labor. In some countries like Germany, Holland and Australia, hydroponics is also used to grow crops.

There are various profits of hydroponic gardening over the normal gardening on soil. If the growth rate of plants with normal gardening and hydroponic gardening, under same conditions are compared, then it will be found that a hydroponic plant grows 30-50 percent quicker than a plant grown on soil.

There are various factors for diverse growth rate of normal soil gardening method and hydroponic gardening method. A stimulation of growth takes place in the roots of the plant by using hydroponics. This happens because in hydroponic gardening more oxygen is used and thus the roots get their nutrient fast. The nutrients are directly sent to the root of the plant after mixing with water and this process is done quite a few times in a day.

With hydroponic gardening process, the plant needs very less energy and thus it can easily get the nutrients and break it down as food. The plant saves the energy and uses it afterwards to produce faster and to grow more fruit. Common problems like fungus, bug infestations or diseases are very less with hydroponic gardening and hence these plants are much healthier.

There are also environmental benefits of hydroponic gardening. Compared to the plants grown on soil; water needed for the plants under hydroponic gardening process is much less. The nutrients are recycled constantly and hence these plants want less water. Even regular pesticide is also needed to be provided to the hydroponic plants. Even the chances of topsoil erosion is restricted as topsoil is not utilized in this form of growing plants. In this way, hydroponic gardening provides us many environmental profits too.

In the growing medium of hydroponic gardening, there is a airing and support to the root of the plant so that the water can be easily channeled along with the nutrients. Different growing mediums toil well in dissimilar kinds of hydroponic gardening systems. Mainly Hydroton and expanded shale mediums are used for growing hydroponic plants, whether it is a flow type or ebb system.

Hydroton is light and extended collection of clay. This growing medium is light and airy and hence it allows abundance of oxygen to go through the root system of the plant.Reuse of both varieties of grow rocks is possible, though the shale has more of a propensity to break down and might not be as lasting as the Hydroton. These grow rocks are extremely steady and hardly ever effect the pH balance.

Some excellent fruits and vegetables like grapes, melons, berries, leafy vegetables, etc are also grown by using indoor hydroponic gardening. It is an amazing sight to see the plants bearing excellent fruits and vegetables after hydroponic gardening.
