If you are looking into ways to conceive quickly, you are most likely just starting to try and fall pregnant, or have been struggling for a while. There seems to be a common perception that getting pregnant should be the easiest thing in the world, and that just by having sex you should get pregnant right away. But if you want the truth, then there are only a few days each month when the conditions are ripe for pregnancy, and even still there is only around a 25% chance of successful conception on these days. So this means that there are around twelve opportunities a year to conceive.

With this in mind try and think about intercourse at the right time rather than all the time (its less exhausting!) and try for a baby the smart way. Timing is the crucial factor when asking the question ‘how can I get pregnant as quickly as possible?’. It may be surprising to learn that not many women get this right. The main reason is because so many hold to the common misconception that they ovulate on the 14th day of their menstrual cycle. If all women had a cycle of 28 days, ovulated right on time and in the middle this might be true. In truth there are no two menstrual cycles the same, and even the same woman may ovulate at different times each month.

There is such a huge variance, so its important to know your own cycle and knowing when ovulation occurs is the key to falling pregnant fast. Remember that ovulation very often changes each month, so keeping records is important for getting pregnant faster.

There are various methods for checking ovulation. Tracking with a basal body temperature chart is a sure fire way. Upon waking each morning (before getting out of bed) check your temperature with a basal body thermometer and keep a record of it. You will see that at certain times in the month your temperature will rise by a couple of tenths of a degree (not much, but significant nonetheless) these are your ovulation days. This temperature rise will tell you the times when you are at your fertile peak, so having sex at these times is a must.

The best thing to do when trying for a baby is to make sure there are sperm waiting when your egg is released. That is, you have to have sex before your egg is released. Sperm can survive inside for a number of days, but the eggs life is brief (sometimes only twelve hours). This means that intercourse before ovulation is crucial for bettering your chances of falling pregnant, so once you know the right timings, start ‘trying’ a couple of days prior to ovulation to ensure there are waiting sperm.

There are also ovulation kits available that can give you an indication of when ovulation is approaching. One such method involves the use of a mini microscope that shows up hormonal patterns in saliva.

You simply wipe a small amount of saliva onto the viewer each morning and check the pattern through the eyepiece. Because your hormones change around thirty six hours before ovulation the pattern will distinctly change too and will remain different till ovulation ceases. So having sex on the days with a different pattern will increase your chances of conception – some couples sue this for a contraceptive also, abstaining on the days with a different pattern.

It is very important to be aware of your body. If you are having trouble conceiving, don’t run blindly into IVF or hormonal treatments, consider all the available natural supplements and conception aids and methods beforehand.
