Gold Coast Australia Travel Destinations – Hinterland
Traditionally people visit the Gold Coast Australia for all the coastal and water based attractions such as swimming, surfing, beaches and the many theme parks and other Gold Coast attractions. But take a step away from the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast main beach to discover the Gold Coast hinterland and you will get the full Gold Coast experience. Be sure to visit the Gold Coast Hinterland destinations such as Springbrook National Park, Canungra and Numinbah Valley. There is so much more to do in the Gold Coast hinterland that is so uniquely different from sites and attractions from anywhere else you may have travelled.
The serene and tiny settlement of Springbrook nestles in the Springbrook National Park. The Antarctic Beech trees and the wildlife will take you to another world. Several waterfalls adorn this national park area, which is a rocky enchanting landscape. The Purlingbrook Falls is the most important among them. This beautiful rainforest offers several kilometres of walking trails that will help you unwind from the stress of the busy life you had been leading. You should never miss the one km trail in the Natural Bridge area in the park, which takes you to a glow worm cave situated at Cave Creek. This trail is through the Natural Arch. At the base of the creek, you can swim in the Waringa Pool and refresh yourself.
The stunning Lamington National Park as well as the Coomera River, Canungra Creek, Binna Burra Resorts and O’Reilly’s Valley are all located in Canungra. Canungra Gold Coast is dotted with majestic hills mountains and convenient picnic spots, the ideal location to enjoy a bushwalk and watch for some native Australian flora and fauna. Once a month, on the fourth Saturday of each month are the Canungra markets with vendors selling a variety of fresh local produce and arts and crafts. There are also some well known wineries in Canungra and some great restaurants for sampling the local produce served up to you.
Indigenous aboriginal Australians named the area word ‘Nyummin’, which loosely translated to be ‘hold tight country’. This came about as the Australian aboriginals found a narrow valley which seemed to be holding two mountains together with an alluring strength. Within the he now anglicised ‘Numinbah’ Forest Reserve visitors will witness Waterfall Creek, towering silky oaks and Eucalypts. With permission, Numinbah Forest Reserve authorities permit visitors to cycle or horse ride in the park.
In Springbrook, you can stay comfortably in Binna Burra Mountain Lodge, Boonah Valley Motel, Cedar Lake Country Resort, O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat & Mountain Villas, Springbrook Mountain Manor, Hardy House Bed & Breakfast and the Mouses House. Accommodation prices of these Gold Coast hotels and Gold Coast resorts vary between $90 and $190. Similarly, Canungra also possesses comfortable Gold Coast accommodations like Wallaby Ridge Retreat, Baggs of Canungra Bed & Breakfast and O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat. If you are a camp lover, Sharp Park River Bend Country Bush Camping is the cheapest option, with a low price of $5 for a basic room but no extra facilities.
