There is nothing like collecting different stuff, if it gets constant appreciation from people. Apart from collecting toys, dolls, cars, many people also collect stamps.
The first step towards stamp collection should be to decide on what type of stamp you will collect. Rather than going for every type of stamps, it is better to collect a specific kind of stamps. You may collect stamps on properties like types, purpose, condition and formats.
As per reports, every year, ten thousand stamps are issued across the globe. It would really be very expensive and next to impossible to collect each of them. Hence, you should focus on one particular country from where you will collect your stamps.
Collecting stamps from your own country will be a beneficial and much economical affair since there will be an easy accessibility. Else, you can also choose a neighboring country or any other place, which is easily accessible. The financial resources you have will also play an important role in stamp collection.
You can also collect stamps, which have objects like birds, places or ships depicted on them. On the other hand, collect stamps, which are red, blue, or any other in color. You can also choose between new or used stamps. It is important for you to have a well spread distribution network, if you want your hobby of stamp collection come good.
If you are short of funds, it is better to collect used stamps since these are free of cost. You can also contact your relatives and friends and ask them to provide you the stamps that are easily available. Your pen friends, if there, can also help you to get the stamps you want.
Blindly tearing off the stamp from envelope should not be done. Instead, employ the special methods that are devised by stamp collectors.

Before you start collecting stamps, equip yourself with tools that are meant for stamp collection. Keep with you tongs, hinges, album, watermark sensing device, magnifying glass and perforation gauge.
Once you have a decent amount of stamps, keep them in an album. You can also mount the stamps using hinges that come with every stamp collecting album.
But don’t mount the stamps using adhesive tapes and glues. Doing this can damage your stamps. If you don’t have plastic dividers in your stamp album, use hinges or mounts for separating the stamps.
Take utmost care of your stamps while handing them. Rather than using your sweaty or dirty hands, use tongs. Even washing your hands will not serve purpose as some moisture can severely damage the quality of the stamps.
Keep a magnifying glass with you as well. It will help you to know your stamp better. You might find all the stamps similar when you see them through naked eyes, but with the help of magnifying glass, you might some small but significant difference.
It is important to enjoy your hobby of stamp collection rather than getting too much in its technicalities. You can also earn a good amount of money from this hobby but only after you have hands on experience in it.
