Now of course you will shop around for the best deal, or what you believe is the best deal. After all, there is no other way to go. The thing is that when you are quoted a rate for a vehicle rental you are only quoted to base rate and not the actual amount that you will be paying in the end. Most companies will go out of their way to make sure those initial rates are good enough to get your business but then you will find out that there are other expenses that you hadn’t accounted for.

Another charge that car rental companies add is a gas fee, if you fail to fill the vehicle up prior to returning it to the rental company. Many are not aware of this charge, and end up paying overpriced gas fees when the rental company has to fill the rental up with gas. You do not need to put a full tank of gas in your rental, when you return it, the gas gage just needs to be where it was when you received it. This information is normally found in the rental agreement, yet few renter actually read the agreement that they sign.
When you pick up your rental car, be sure to find out if there is an additional fee if you will be returning the car at another location. If possible you will want to try and avoid renting your vehicle from an airport car rental, as these will tend to cost you more money due to the convenience. If you are staying at a hotel nearby the airport you can often receive a shuttle to the hotel and rent a car from a local rental company. This option will cost you much less than renting from the airport.
When renting a car it is very important that you carefully read the rental agreement before signing for the car. If you don’t you may end up paying more then you thought you would, without any way to dispute the extra charges.
