When you are at a model train show, the train is not the only thing that is going to be going round and round. There are so many incredible things to see that you are going to find that you may not have enough time in the day. You can literally lose yourself at model train shows if you are into this hobby.

Manufacturers will attend, setting up booths to display the newest and best of their products. Cars, scenery and even complete sets will be available for ordering or purchasing right on the spot. The newest and best in model railroading is on hand for you to check out.

If there was ever a time that you should bring the kids, this is it. If you want your son or daughter to get into the hobby just as much as you, take them with you and let them enjoy the different things that are set up with kids in mind. They are going to have as much fun as you and will be dying to spend time with you setting up your next scene.

These shows vary from large traveling exhibitions to smaller, more localized ones with a permanent store front or building as a base of operations. The permanent ones boast layouts of model trains in excess of 20′ long by 30′ wide, usually depicting the area that they are in. They will usually set them up to replicate a time when trains were the main means of transporting goods and passengers. These displays contain amazing detail and massive amounts of man hours in their construction.

For the most part, the smaller shows will tend to be shows that are local and are more or less a gathering of the local hobbyists. The traveling shows that are held in convention centers are the ones that you have to make time for if model trains are your thing. These model train shows are truly a spectacle to behold.

When you go to model train shows, make sure that you make the time to get in to hear at least one lecture or demonstration. For the most part, they go fairly quickly, but you can pick up a lot of great ideas and they are well worth the time. Of course, the real reason you are going to be here is to buy things. You will be able to buy direct off of the vendors and you will probably also see some collectors items going up for auction. Model train shows are a great time, just make sure you get to see every inch of it when you are there.
